Delicious & Protein-Rich Egg Roll Recipe | Kolkata Street Food
Kolkata, like any other place in India, is known for its street food. My father was posted to Kolkata, India about 20 years back, being in the Army, we had to shift base from one location to another almost every three years. It is then that I had a chance of tasting Kolkata Street Food. My favourites were Egg Roll and Mughlai Parantha.
I have tasted various types of Egg Rolls after that, but they are nothing compared with the ones I had in Kolkata. I think they are like the first crush for me,😘 you have many crushes but never forget your first one.😁
A few days back I requested my school friend, Madhubanti Basu to give me the recipe for the Egg Roll which we get in Kolkata. Madhubanti is from Kolkata and is an amazin…ggg cook. In half a minute she gave me the recipe I had been looking for (silly me didn’t think of asking her before). So I tried the this yummy Egg Roll just at home.
Now I won’t say it turned out to be as good as I have had in Kolkata. But it was decent (see the picture) and if you like the look, do try.
An egg is a great source of protein and so an excellent weight loss food. I will write a whole article on eggs and its benefits in weight loss separately, but right now, just EGG ROLL.😋🤤
Ingredients (for 1 Egg Roll)
I have used Tortilla Wraps for easing the recipe. You can use homemade parantha or roti (Indian Flatbread made of Wheat or All Purpose Flour) instead. These are available in various flavours, use any – my favourite is Spinach Herb. Ingredients for Filling
|
Preparation:
Step 1:
Filling – Take a Bowl and put the sliced onion, cucumber and chili tomato ketchup into it and mix well. Keep it aside.
PS: You can also add boiled mashed potato or cottage cheese (paneer) if you want, but this time I kept it simple 😛
Step 2:
- Take a bowl and break the egg in it. Add spices: Salt & Pepper and chopped green chilis
- Beat these ingredients well.
- Now heat a flat non-stick pan and put oil into it to heat.
- Add the beaten egg to it and let it cook on one side.
- Put the Tortilla Wrap on the uncooked side of the egg.
- The Wrap will stick to the egg.
- Brush a little oil on the side of the wrap facing you, then flip the side and let it cook on the other side.
- Once done, take it out and put it on a plate with the side with the egg on top.
Step 3:
Now put filling prepared earlier in Step 1 on the wrap prepared in Step 2 and then fold it in the form of a roll.
Step 4:
Enjoy your delicious Hot & Spicy Egg Roll!
I can have this roll at all times – breakfast, lunch or dinner. Choose your time. 😃
Do let me know how was your experience in the comments section below. I would love to hear from you.
