Ultimate Guide to Find a Weight Loss Buddy | Comprehensive Checklist
In my earlier post, I had highlighted the reasons why you need a fitness buddy or a weight loss buddy and impact s/he can have on your weight loss journey. But in order to find the perfect person to be your weight loss partner, you need to prepare your Buddy Checklist and list down all pointers you need to look for in your fitness partner.
Your Weight Loss Buddy Checklist is crucial so that you don’t end up making a wrong choice for your buddy. Believe me, it can be a disaster. Use the pointers below to find the right buddy for yourself.

You need a buddy who will give you an honest opinion and whose opinion you can blindly accept. She should not just say things to make you look good (a lot of people do it) or alternatively to demean you unnecessarily, this will adversely affect your confidence levels. The buddy’s role is of great responsibility and therefore, you need to find someone who understands this and takes this role seriously.
Role Model:
Your buddy should be someone you can look up to or who has proven herself in your eyes. If your buddy is constantly making excuses for a workout or does not stick to the plan herself, then she cannot be someone you can rely on. If someone is herself not disciplined, how can you expect her to keep you in discipline and motivate you? A person (like me) who has herself lost weight can be an excellent buddy because I have already proven myself. I can guide you and motivate you on your journey and I am someone you can look up to. So find someone like me. 😎😎
Compatibility:
You should have some sort of compatibility with your buddy. Either in terms of your routine or your interests or even your goals. You cannot keep up with a buddy with whom you are not compatible with, it will do you more harm than good.
Motivator:
Your buddy can really make or break your confidence. Yes, that is how important a buddy is. If you have someone who is constantly nagging you or criticising you, it acts as a big demotivation. This can make you lose your confidence big time, which is in no way good for you and the success of the journey. You need a buddy who knows how to strike the right balance between motivating you as well as keeping your ego in place.
Should Not be Egoistic:
A person who is highly egoistic can do a lot of damage to you and make you lose interest in what you are doing and make you quit easily. These people think that what they are doing is absolutely right and are really not flexible at all. There is no way they listen to you or understand your problems. Avoid such people.
Should Not be Overly Competitive:
There are also some people who are overly competitive. Now, healthy competition is good, but if a person is overly competitive, she may give you wrong advise, start hiding things from you and do stuff secretly. People with such traits cannot be good fitness buddies, and you should absolutely tick them off your list.
You definitely need to avoid a person who insists on taking unhealthy shortcuts (like drugs) or has unhealthy or unhygienic habits or only talks without actually proving anything (oh you can find lots like this in this world). Needless to say, STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE.

Great checklist! I was trying to come up with something to add to it, but can’t think of anything worthwhile. Are you finding success with your coaching program?

Thank you for these weight loss techniques! I think it will be really helpful to my mom. Can you please suggest any ideas or techniques for gaining weight as I’m unable to do it by applying various methods.

Hi Bhuvi, Thanks for your comment… please do refer the blog to your mom… anyone who benefits from the blog is welcome here.
Regarding your problem (which to many is a blessing) you need to refer to someone who is an expert in that.
As far as I am concerned, if you are leaving a healthy lifestyle… i.e eating right and exercising, you are fine and do not need to stress on any weight gain measures.
